Banned Books Week: Book Tasting

October 5 October 11

On a cream background there is brown writing that says, "Book Tasting. October 5th - October 11th. In the library magazine area. A Banned Books Week Celebration." Below that is an image of a placemat with utensils on either side, with a stack of books on the plate.

Curious about why some books get banned or challenged? Did you know that books like The Bluest Eye, The Kite Runner, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Holy Bible were among the most challenged books in the 2010 – 2019 decade? Take part in our book tasting from October 5th – October 11th during Banned Books Week. Books will be available in the magazine area.

What is a book tasting? During Banned Books Week, we’ll have challenged/banned books on display in the magazine area. They won’t be available for checkout, but for you to look at in the library, read reviews, read the back cover, and read a couple chapters you select. We’ll have book tasting notes available for you to write your perceptions. Totally challenged by a book or changed your mind? Head to the Reference desk and select which book challenged you the most. Really want to dig into one of the books? Checkout another copy and take your tasting notes home with you.
