In 1994, the library set forth another bond issue to increase the tax levy to $0.24 (a $0.13 increase). Library supporters used every means to let the public know the importance of this issue, even the annual Greentree Parade. The levy passed.
We are undergoing some construction on our website, during which time some parts may be inaccessible or not function as normal. The site may not be mobile-friendly.
E. Umbrella Technology Policy— The Kirkwood Public Library strives to create a collection of technological and electronic items that are on the leading edge of trends, are in demand by our community, and promote accessibility. Evaluating and evolving this collection to meet the needs of our community is a priority. Items for the technology collection will be determined by staff.
KPL Technology Borrowing Guidelines:
Patron must have less than $10.00 in fines on their Library account.
For patrons under 18, a parent or guardian must be present to provide signed permission for check out.
Technology items may be placed on hold, but must be picked up and returned to Kirkwood Public Library.
The Library will not be held liable for any injuries or damage to self or personal property as a result of Technology item use. Individuals using Technology items agree that they do so at their own risk.
The Kirkwood Public Library is not responsible for breaches of personal information, or online accounts that may occur from an individual’s use of the Library’s Technology devices.
Overdue Fines and Replacement Costs:
Patrons are responsible for any overdue fines and replacement costs. Fines for overdue Technology items are $1.00 per day, per item up to $28. Replacement costs for Technology items plus a $5.00 processing fee will be charged at 28 days overdue. If an item is returned missing a part that can be replaced the patron will be charged the cost to replace that item as recorded in the item record or determined by library staff. A $10.00 fee will be assessed to patrons who reset or render unusable a device that can be restored. If the device is rendered completely unusable by the altering of settings the patron will be charged for the full replacement of the device.
Loan Periods and Renewals:
Technology items will check out for a period of 3 weeks with 3 renewals.
ARTICLE V.Collection Development Policy Of The Kirkwood Public Library
Section 6. Community Spotlight— The Kirkwood Public Library values local authors and encourages the inclusion of their work to the collection. Authors who are residents of Kirkwood or non-resident authors whose work features Kirkwood, MO may submit their book to the collection. Advanced Reading Copies and copies with non-traditional library- binding will not be added to the collection. Generally the work must be published in the last two years. Contributed items become property of the library and are subject to all of the Library’s Withdrawal Criteria and Gift policies.

VHS Conversion Service Important Notice
To be eligible for our VHS conversion service you must live in the library taxing districts* of Kirkwood Public Library or other MLC libraries. To help verify your eligibility, we have moved our VHS registration form onto our library’s online catalog. This new page requires sign in with your library card and will only display to patrons who match our eligibility requirements as indicated on your library account.
Follow the steps below to access and complete the form.
1. Click the registration button below. You will be directed to an error page on the library’s online catalog that has the following message.
2. On that page, click Sign In and enter your library card number and PIN.
● If you are eligible for conversion service, you will be granted access to complete the registration form.
● In you are ineligible for conversion service, you will encounter another error message merely stating that you do not have access to the page.
If you are not granted access to the page but believe that you should be, please contact the IT dept at (314) 821-5770, option 5 to verify that your library account is accurate.
* Library taxing districts do not always match those of schools or confine to city boundaries. Therefore it is possible you live in an area around Kirkwood or another MLC library but your library taxing district may belong to the county library.
Group 1: Summer Reading Assistant: Help us give out Summer Reading prizes, create coupon booklets, help patrons sign up for Summer Reading at the public computers, and answer questions about the program.
Group 2: Youth Services Event Volunteer: This is perfect for someone that wants to help us put on events for kids and teens! Duties include program preparation, helping at specific events such as storytime, and assisting during library programs with staff.
Group 3: Behind the Scenes Volunteer: A fit if you enjoy independent projects like shelving books, helping us keep the room inviting and tidy, refilling book displays, helping with behind the scenes Summer Reading prep including couponing, supply preparation, and more!
Group 4: Office Assistant: Work in the library admin office on light clerical duties such as scanning and stickering books. Great if you want some office/organizing experience!
Group 5: Mural Project: Help us design a library mural on the outside fence. If you love creative projects, painting and teamwork, this group is for you!

Request for a Library-Sponsored Event
The Kirkwood Public Library maintains a meeting room for Library sponsored programs consistent with its mission “to inspire a lifelong commitment to learning and creativity, for a more prosperous and connected community.” The Kirkwood Public Library welcomes outside organizations or individuals interested in presenting at the Library. Events must be offered virtually and may be done so at the discretion of library managers. This selection will be based on public service needs and other activities scheduled.
