In 1950, an article was published in an unknown source emphasizing the importance of the Kirkwood Public Library. In 1949-1950 Library Board minutes allude to financial problem. Longtime board members are replaced within one year’s time with new members. The Board calls for a treasurer with financial background. Librarian’s report (dated June 13, 1949) notes a low budget, causing a staff shortage and inability to hire qualified employees. Librarian also calls for creation of by-laws and appointing new board members.
