Off Duty Police Officer Hired

By Nick  |
In December of 1961, the library hired an off duty police officer at $2.50 an hour to work 7-9 pm to help with “maintaining discipline of young adult patrons.” Library Director Mrs. Guire describes the situation as “impossible.”

At a Library Board meeting in February 1962, Mrs. Guire reports that it is necessary to have the policeman on duty every evening to keep order. Board Member Eckhart suggested that perhaps newspaper publicity would “acquaint parents with the situation and cause them to question their children’s activities.”

Pardon our Mess!

We are replacing our carpet, during which time: the main floor has limited access, computers are unavailable (we have limited printing capabilities), patron holds and the Reference desk are relocated.
